2026 Cruise Schedule

Cruise Chair: Pamela Spencer

Laurent -Matia Cruise

The Corinthian Yacht Club of Bellingham provides an active cruise schedule during the sailing season. We generally have one club cruise a month from May through October. During the COVID pandemic, the cruise itinerary was restricted to the San Juan Islands due to the difficulty of crossing the border into Canada, but our cruising range usually extends to the Canadian Gulf Islands.

In addition to monthly scheduled cruises, CYC members often organize informal cruises among boater friends. One of the advantages of being a club member is meeting other boaters who have similar boats or boating interests. These informal groups often head out for a weekend or longer to a place of their choosing to enjoy camaraderie at a beautiful anchorage, friendly marina or reciprocal club.

If you are a CYC member, please log in to this site to view more information about cruising, reciprocity, education, racing and membership.

2026 Dates for CYC Cruises

We received some great suggestions over the winter for cruise locations around the San Juan Islands, Canadian Gulf Islands and Vancouver, BC, for this year. Contact our cruise director if you would like to host or co-host any of the following, or if you have other suggestions for 2026:

  • Spencer Spit or Watmough Bay, Lopez Island (Anchor or park buoy)
  • Rosario Resort, West Sound, Friday Harbor or other destination on San Juan Island

  • Vancouver, BC, Jazz Festival, June 26-July 5. (Reciprocal or other dock slip in False Creek or anchor)
  • Bard on the Beach in Vancouver, Date TBD
  • Long distance (up to 2 weeks) to several locations in the Canadian Gulf Islands (Ganges, Montague, Telegraph harbors, etc.) Join or host for as many days as you like.

Note that weekend cruises may include Friday to Sunday dates. Some club members can set sail late on a Friday and arrive that evening. Others decide to head out early Saturday. Either option is fine. For event details, click on the event title or the event in the calendar.

April - Inati Bay and/or Smuggler’s Cove on Lummi Island (Anchor or Mooring buoy)

  • Date TBD for First Cruise of the Year! An easy sail across Bellingham Bay. A good way to start the season, and an easy introduction to the new Aiston Preserve!
    Host: Pam Spencer

May 2 - Opening Day, Squalicum Harbor

  • CYC Swap Meet next to SYC clubhouse - 7 to 11 AM
    Host:  Bruce Henniger

May 8-10  - Matia Island Cleanup Cruise with Ranger Steve (Dock)

  • One of our annual contributions to help maintain boating parks. A short sail to the Matia dock, a raft-up and potluck along with an easy day's work of cleaning up at the park after the winter season. Not to be missed. Host: Greg Hartgraves (605) 553-6258.

June 26-28 - Turn Point Lighthouse Work Cruise (Anchor or Park buoy)

  • Join the annual work party to preserve the historic Turn Point Lighthouse on Stuart Island. If we are lucky, a pod of Orcas may pass by the cliffs at Turn Point. We will always take a whale-watching break. Anchor in Prevost Harbor on Friday. Meet at the Government dock Saturday at 9 am where we will depart for the lighthouse. Lunch is provided (sandwiches, chips, watermelon and cookies). Potluck on Saturday evening (6 pm) at the Stuart Island Marine State Park includes a trivia contest with great prizes. Hosts: Pam Spencer and Karen Heckert. RSVP: pamelaspencer@gmail.com

Hosting A Cruise

As a CYC member, please consider hosting a cruise this year. It's an easy thing to do and requires little real work—mostly you just need to commit to being there! Some cruise hosts like to plan a simple and fun social activity at the destination but this is not required. Hosting a cruise is a great way to meet people in the club and to keep our club active, social and fun! Should a cruise not have a host at the time of the cruise, the cruise will still occur. Please refer to the CYC newsletter, website and email notices for cruise information and updates.

Contact our Cruise Chair if you are interested in being a cruise host!

Hosting a CYC cruise:

  • First and foremost, you must select a cruise that sparks your interest, whether a favorite destination to share with other CYC members or a location that you have always wanted to visit but until now have not done so.
  • Second, you determine dates that suit your schedule.
  • Third, you decide what activities, if any, you wish to explore such as hiking, dining, shopping, beachcombing, etc., and whether or not there will be any potlucks or BBQs.
  • Once these tasks are decided, you can invite members to your cruise by contacting the cruise officer or webmaster who will list your cruise on our event calendar and forward details to the membership.
  • Then you coordinate the trip with members so you have phone numbers, boat names (radio contact), and any other necessities. Then you sail together or converge at your planned destination and have a wonderful time exploring the area.
  • Photographs and a paragraph or two in the next newsletter are always a welcome addition.
  • Consider that your backyard (San Juan and Gulf Islands) contains some of the best cruising grounds in the world. Get out there and enjoy your boat and your fellow CYC members.
