CYC Membership

Welcome to the Corinthian Yacht Club

The Corinthian Yacht Club of Bellingham was established in 1986. It is a non-profit social and recreational organization whose purpose is to promote, advance and encourage the sport of Corinthian and amateur sailing.

Boat ownership is not a requirement for membership although most members have boats.

The CYC has over 100 member families. We sponsor the popular Thursday night racing series on Bellingham Bay from April through September as well as summer cruises in the Salish Sea. Regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month. Our monthly club meetings are in-person meetings at the Squalicum Yacht Club building at Squalicum Harbor Marina in Bellingham. We no longer offer meetings on Zoom, but we usually post a video of our programs on YouTube and our website.

The Bellingham CYC is an inclusive and diverse yacht club that welcomes sailors of all types and backgrounds. We are a friendly group, and we encourage sailors from our local area to apply for membership. To keep our membership local, we generally do not accept members from outside the area unless they have a boat that is locally moored.

Membership Benefits

Club membership has several advantages for active boaters. These include: sailboat racing, monthly club cruises during sailing season, boating education, reciprocity with other yacht clubs in Washington state and British Columbia and most of all fellowship and socializing among club members! We strive to keep our membership dues low, only $70/year, to allow for members of all income levels. This low cost depends on club members volunteering to support club activities. There are no paid positions in the club and it continues through the work of many volunteers giving their time to keep the club functioning.

Finding a club sponsor and participation

People who would like to join CYC must be sponsored by a current CYC member. Many people who join are friends of club members or get to know a club member at the docks or through racing, but this is not a requirement. If you have a boat berthed in Squalicum, Blaine or another local harbor and see a boat flying the CYC burgee, feel free to introduce yourself and ask about the CYC. If you do not know a CYC member, then contact the commodore or membership officer and introduce yourself; we may be able to find a sponsor for you.

All of our activities and club management is done by volunteers and this keeps our dues very low. To be a member of the CYC you must be willing to commit to volunteering some time to support club activities. When you join you will be asked what activities you might like to be involved in or to help with. This might include club racing, attending club cruises, volunteering to help with administrative tasks or other activities. Generally, these activities require only a little time — many hands make light work! Your sponsor can help you find a comfortable fit as a club volunteer.

Examples of Club Activities:

Participate in racing
Attend cruises
Attend potlucks
Attend club special events

Examples of Volunteer Activities:

Host a cruise
Give a club presentation

Help on the race committee boat
Help at a special event (Winter Dance, Opening Day, etc.)
Serve or assist on the Board

If you would like to be a club member you will need to have a current club member be your sponsor. Many applicants learn about the CYC from chatting at the docks with one of our members or through the local boating community. If you are interested in joining CYC and do not know a current member who is willing to sponsor you, don't let that stop you! Contact the Membership Chair and let them know your interest in the club. They may be able to find a club member who will sponsor you. Once you have found a sponsor and have filled out the application for membership, our Board will review your application and contact your sponsor. Generally, you will hear back in a couple weeks.

Club Costs

Annual dues are $70 for club members. New members pay an additional fee to cover the cost of their name tags that are worn to club events. New members who apply on or after September 1 will have their dues credited to the following calendar year.
