About this event

THE WHAT

Our goals for this:

  • Encourage new boats / non-racers to join the fun

  • Go over the basics: courses, starting sequence, mark roundings, when boat meets

  • Update everyone to the 2025 - 2028 RRS, including recent changes

  • Discuss the racing calendar and all the local events

  • Q & A discussion. Note: This is to be focused on questions related to RRS and CYC / BYC procedures.

WHEN

Tuesday, March 18 (3/18/2025), starting at 7p.

WHERE

Bellingham Yacht Club

WHY

We all know some boaters that might be interested in participating, but may be reluctant. This would be an opportunity for any "racing curious" skippers to learn what's involved, with the hope of eliminating fear of participation. This will also give grizzled vets the opportunity to bring up any outstanding questions or issues with our racing programs during the Q & A session.

WHO

Curious or new to racing: This is the event for you! Experienced racers will explain the ins and outs of basic racing and the way we do it on Thursday nights. YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME!

WE SAIL FRIENDLY!

Experienced Racers: This is where you come in: we need instructors! Given the vast amount of experience among you, we were hoping that you would be interested in leading the lecture. I am happy to be the MC. And while I'm familiar with and could lead the instruction, we felt that having veteran members lead would provide more gravitas. Participation would be open to all CYC and BYC members, along with any from the Community Boating Center interested in racing.

Note that this will be separate and in addition to our annual Skipper's Meeting / Awards Ceremony.
